16 beneficiary families receive the blessing of shelter in Gulbarga Diocese

Gulbarga, July 17, 2021:

The much awaited housing project in Gulbarga for the flood victims was inaugurated on Saturday at Hulsoor, Basava Kalyana by Archbishop Peter Machado in the presence of His Lordship Robert Miranda, bishop of Gulbarga and Swami Shivananda. The families were over joyed at the inauguration ceremony and the blessing of their new homes. 16 houses have been built with the aid of Rs 20 lakhs that was sent by the Babgalore Archdiocese in 2020.


The people received His Grace Peter Machado with the traditional welcome accorded with drums and garlands. The ceremony began with a prayer to almighty God to bless the newly built homes for safety and protection.


Archbishop Peter Machado speaking at the handing over ceremony said, “The aid to build these houses has came in by way of small contributions mentioning even how school children contributed Rs. 5 & 10. I have come here personally to see that this unitive has been fulfilled and also thank all the donors who helped for this purpose.”.



Archbishop Peter remembered to thank all the donors who had contributed generously for this project. He also hailed Bishop Robert Miranda as one of the most simple and ideal bishop not only in Karnataka but also in India. Prior to the blessing and the inauguration ceremony Bishop Miranda had celebrated the holy eucharist along with the people invoking God’s blessings on these simple people.



Bishop Robert Miranda thanked the gesture of the archbishop Peter Machado whose heart is always large especially for the poor and the needy. He also recalled that whenever he has approached the archbishop for any assistance he has always received a positive reply.

He also appreciated the efforts of the former parish priests of Hulsoor Mission Rev Fr Joseph Rodrigues, Fr Clary Dsouza and the present parish priest, Fr Sunil Mankare for their contribution towards the growth of the mission.


At the inaugural ceremony, the presence of Shivaanand Swamiji of Hulsoor, priests and sisters of the deanery and other local dignitaries added more flavor to the celebration. The beneficiary families were grateful for the gift of the new homes and their cheerfulness manifested a new beginning in their lives.
