Bangalore, 26-01-2020: A Sunday with multiple reasons inviting celebrations all over the archdiocese, here we present some of those celebrations:
1.Archbishop hoists the tricolor flag to mark the 71st Republic Day
There was a patriotic mood in the Archbishop’s house campus on January 26th 2020 and the Campus was decked with tricolor flag. As 6.30 am, the prelate celebrated the Holy Eucharist along with the Archdiocesan retired priests in the clergy home and prayed for our nation. After the Mass different communities living in the Archbishops house campus joined together for the flag hoisting ceremony. Everybody felt proud of our country while reciting the preamble of the Constitution.
The first citizen of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Bangalore Most Rev Dr Peter Machado hoisted the tricolor flag and invited everyone to pray for our country and it's leaders. Many retired priests were present during the first Republic day celebration.
2.Bible Sunday celebrations across the archdiocese
For the first time ever in the universal Catholic Church as the third Sunday of ordinary time is observed as the Word of God Sunday or Bible Sunday the same was inaugurated and celebrated even in the Bengaluru Archdiocese.
Many parishes led the faithful with meaningful liturgy and other special events in order to align their lives according to God’s Word.
Holy Trinity Church , Sahakarnagar manifested that children are the best channels reach to the members of their own families and to reach out to the society .In this regard activities for the children from nursery to class 10 were organized * To recite any verse * Drawing on any passage from Bible * Reciting Psalms *Telling a miracle of Jesus to the group *Explaining a parable in context with God and his people . A Bible quiz was organised for the whole congregation.
4. A campaign by St. Germains Academy
There were about 38 Catholic teachers who are working at St. Germain’s Academy held stalls in different parishes in the urban Bangalore inviting parents to admit Catholic children to Catholic Schools. The campaign is the brain child of Rev. Fr. Christopher VimalRaj, the Director of St. Germains academy.There were 114 registrations made from different parishes.
5. Jigani parish inaugurates Legion of Mary Apostolate
The Legion of Mary (Women and Men) was installed by Fr Sunny Richard the Spritual Director of Legion of Mary at Our Lady of Good Health Church, Jigani (Established in 2011). The Priest in-charge Fr Panneer Selva Kumar took up this initiative to patronise the devotion of Blessed Virgin Mary. There were 15 members who registered their names to actively involve themselves in this devotion and mission for the first time since its inception. After the Holy Mass while addressing all the parishioners the Director Fr Sunny said, “Mary is the Co-mediatrix between God and Human beings along with her son Jesus and those who love and believe in her will not be forsaken but always they will be protected.
6. Archbishop Peter Machado echoes the message of unity to Muslim brethren
Bengaluru Archbishop was invited for the republic Day celebrations at khadria Mosque in millers road which is just in front of his residence. Archbishop Peter Machado delivered the message of unity to all the Muslim brothern. The prelate said, “let us live together and die together as Indians”. All those who gathered responded to this with their thunderous applause.
