Bangalore, February 2, 2025 – Archbishop Peter Machado, the Archbishop of Bangalore, has been elected as the Vice President of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI) during the recently held 36th Plenary Assembly at XIM University, Bhubaneswar. His election marks a significant recognition of his leadership, pastoral vision, and commitment to the Church in India.
A Leader with a Vision
Apart from his role as the Archbishop of Bangalore, Archbishop Peter Machado has also been serving as:
- President of the Karnataka Regional Catholic Bishops’ Council (KRCBC)
- *President of the All Karnataka United Christian Forum for Human Rights (AKUCFHR)”
His pastoral leadership extends beyond the Archdiocese, as he actively promotes the leadership of the laity in the Church, encourages youth participation and advocates religious freedom and social justice. His commitment to serving the poor and marginalized, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, Manipur Violence issues and various humanitarian crises, has been widely appreciated.
Significance of His New Role in the CCBI
As the Vice President of the CCBI, Archbishop Machado will work closely with Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão, who has been re-elected as President, and Archbishop Vincent Aind, the newly elected Secretary General. Together, they will guide the largest Episcopal conference in Asia, representing the Latin Rite bishops of India, in fostering synodal pathways for mission, evangelization and pastoral care across the country.
His election as Vice President of the CCBI is a testament to his wisdom, experience, and deep commitment to the mission of the Church. Under his leadership, the Catholic Church in India will continue to grow in faith, unity, and service to society.
