Archdiocesan Parishes and Institutions Observe Day of Grandparents and Elderly

Bangalore, July 28, 2024 - Grandparents Day was celebrated with enthusiasm and warmth across many parishes and institutions of the archdiocese, honoring the wisdom, love, and dedication of grandparents and elders within the community.


Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Carmelaram

Immaculate Heart of Mary Church began the day with a special Mass dedicated to the health and well-being of grandparents and elders. The event, organized by the parish Catechism Teachers and children, featured lively action songs and hymns from the youth choir. Fr. Rajesh, the Parish Priest, remarked, "We extend our prayers and support to all grandparents and elders, seeking God's blessings and protection upon them."


Annunciation Church, Nandidurga Road

At Annunciation Church, Grandparents Day featured a special mass followed by a communal lunch. The heartfelt Mass, led by Fr. G. Patrick and Fr. V.M. Gregory, acknowledged the invaluable contributions of grandparents and elders. Mrs. Aneurine, a longtime parishioner, said, "It's heartwarming to see the church honor us in such a special way." Mr. Anil D'Souza added, "The mass, lunch, and kind words made us feel truly special."


Family Welfare Centre

The Family Welfare Center produced a short film titled "Shrink" which was showcased at both locations. The film depicted the challenges and joys of aging, urging viewers to empathize with and support their elders, fostering a more understanding and supportive community.


St. Anthony's Church, Bettadahalasuru

St. Anthony's Church celebrated with a special Mass dedicated to the health and happiness of grandparents and elders. Parish priest Fr. Christopher White emphasized, "Our grandparents are the pillars of our community. Today, we celebrate their lives, sacrifices, and unwavering faith. May God's blessings always be upon them."


These celebrations highlighted the importance of honoring and cherishing the older generation, strengthening the spirit of love, respect, and intergenerational bonding within the parish communities.


St. Patrick's Church, Brigade Road

"An Evening with the Grandparents" was held at St. Patrick's Church, Brigade Road, in honor of the World Day of Grandparents. The event welcomed over 75 grandparents from various parish zones.

Fr. Christy, the parish priest, kicked off the evening with a warm welcome. The event featured fun games and activities for the elderly, organized efficiently by Ms. Cynthia Fernandes and her team. The special celebration concluded with the Holy Eucharist, making it a memorable evening for all.


St. Francis Xavier's Cathedral

St. Francis Xavier's Cathedral in Bangalore joyfully celebrated Grandparents Day, honoring the contributions, wisdom, and love of grandparents and elders. The event had a special Mass dedicated to their health and happiness, followed by various activities and performances by the parish community. The celebration highlighted the importance of respecting and cherishing the older generation, fostering a sense of intergenerational love and unity. The day concluded with heartfelt prayers and blessings, making it a memorable occasion for all attendees.
