“Communication must promote Communion”, says Dr. Ruffini, the prefect of Communications.


Bangalore, November 24, 2024: In a historic visit to the Archdiocese of Bangalore, Dr. Paolo Ruffini, Prefect of the Dicastery for Communication of the Holy See, and Dr. Natasa Govekar, the director of the department of theology - pastoral of the same dicastery embarked on a memorable journey that highlighted the importance of communication for the Church in modern times. Their visit, not only underscored the global role of the Vatican’s communication efforts but also celebrated the rich history and spiritual heritage of the Archdiocese of Bangalore. Their visit occurred during the 2 days National media conference for the priests and religious from November 23-24, 2024 at St. John’s National Medical College of Health Sciences, Bangalore.


Dr. Paolo Ruffini and Dr. Natasa Govekar visited some of the Archdiocese of Bangalore’s most significant shrines and churches. They began at the Infant Jesus Shrine, known for its devotion and healing spirit, before proceeding to St. Mary’s Basilica, a historic landmark with stunning neo-gothic architecture. Their final stop was the St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, a central place of worship in the Archdiocese. Throughout the visit, they reflected on the vital role of these sacred spaces in nurturing faith and advancing the Church’s mission of evangelization.The Vatican dignitaries expressed their admiration for the vibrant faith life of the Archdiocese and the dedication of its clergy, religious, and laypeople in continuing to serve the needs of the local and global community.


Their visit also included a tour at AVE Studios of the Archdiocesan Communications Center (ACC). AVE Studios is renowned for its role in producing Catholic media, particularly its commitment to spreading the message of the Christ through various multimedia platforms in Karnataka. Dr. Ruffini and Dr. Govekar were welcomed by Archbishop Peter Machado, Rev. Dr. Cyril Victor Joseph and other priests, who guided them through the studio’s operations. The discussions revolved around the growing importance of digital media and the innovative ways the Church is reaching out to the faithful across the world.


The visit of the Communication experts not only has strengthened the ties between the Vatican and the Archdiocese of Bangalore but also highlighted the vital role that communication in the Church's mission to bring the Gospel to all peoples of the world. With their words of encouragement and inspiration, they left a lasting legacy of hope, unity, and commitment to the shared mission of the Church.


The Archdiocese of Bangalore, through its media initiatives, sacred spaces, and dedicated clergy, continues to be a beacon of faith and communication, ensuring that the message of Christ reaches all, across all mediums beyond all borders.


They also made brief visits to the night shelter, ATC & Catholic Connect offices at the Archbishop’s House Campus.
