Bangalore, August 7, 2019: Sushma Swaraj, former external affairs minister and a nine-time parliamentarian passed away at the age of 62 on Tuesday night in New Delhi due to a cardiac arrest. Swaraj was cremated with full state honors at Lodi Crematorium in New Delhi.
Known for her excellent oratory, in both English and Hindi, Mrs. Swaraj was one of India’s more efficient ministers, quick to grasp the issues at stake and willing to do what needed to be done to get the job done. The former minister was also popular on social media especially on Twitter for helping people who tweeted seeking her help.
The Prime Ministers and the dignitaries across all political parties hailed her work as a minister and parliamentarian and expressed their condolences to the family of the deceased. Sushma Swaraj played a key role in getting the release of several Indians, including two Catholic priests, abducted by terrorist groups in foreign countries.
