Bengaluru, July 28, 2024 - In a heartwarming celebration honoring Sts. Joachim and Ann, Infant Jesus Parish in Anubhava Nagar, Bengaluru, observed Grandparents and Elders Day. The event, attended by around 300 people, including many children, was a touching tribute to the elders of the parish.
Recognizing the vital role of grandparents and the elderly, the parish community came together in a show of love and respect. The Catechism children, with the support of their teachers, organized a series of programs that included performances and heartfelt tributes. The goal was clear: to celebrate the wisdom, love, and enduring values that grandparents and elders bring to the community.
Reflecting on the event, Fr. Therese Babu said, "Our grandparents and elders are the pillars of our faith and community. Their stories, their sacrifices, and their love are the foundation upon which we build our lives. Today, we honor them and commit to cherishing their presence among us."
The celebration also drew inspiration from Pope Francis' message for the 2024 World Day for Grandparents and the Elderly, which emphasized the need for intergenerational solidarity and the importance of valuing the elderly. The Pope's call to "never forget those who have come before us" resonated deeply throughout the event.
Adding a special touch to the day, students from classes 10 and 12 who achieved distinction in their board exams were honored. Their achievements were celebrated as a testament to the support and guidance provided by their families, including their grandparents.
The event highlighted the pressing issues faced by many elderly individuals, such as isolation and neglect. By bringing together the young and the old, the parish aimed to bridge the generational gap and foster a community where every member feels valued and loved.
As the celebrations concluded, the atmosphere was filled with gratitude and joy, underscoring the parish’s commitment to nurturing a community built on respect, love, and shared values.
