13 November 2024: The Archdiocese of Bangalore gathered in solemn unity to honor the memory of the priests who have dedicated their lives to the service of God and His people and who have since passed away. A special Requiem Mass was celebrated at Sacred Heart Church as part of the annual Recollection, in remembrance of these beloved shepherds who have gone before us.
The Eucharistic celebration was presided over by Archbishop Peter Machado, with a large assembly of priests from across the Archdiocese concelebrating alongside him, including Auxiliary Bishops Most Rev. Arokiaraj Satis Kumar and Most Rev. Joseph Susainathan. The church was filled with the faithful, clergy, and religious who gathered in a spirit of prayer and reverence, paying homage to those who dedicated their lives to proclaiming the Gospel and serving the Church.
Archbishop Peter Machado expressed heartfelt gratitude and respect for the departed priests, recalling their selfless service, unwavering dedication, and the spiritual legacy they left behind. “These men were faithful servants, shepherds to the end. They touched countless lives with their compassion, patience, and steadfast faith. We are gathered here today, not only to remember them but to renew our commitment to carry on their mission, grounded in love for Christ and His people,” he shared.
After the Mass, the congregation processed to the priests’ cemetery where Archbishop Machado led a prayer and solemn blessing of the resting place of these departed souls. The Requiem Mass and blessing of the cemetery were more than a somber remembrance; they were a moving testament to the enduring legacy of love, service, and faithfulness that each departed priest left behind.
The gathering of priests, standing together in prayer, was a beautiful display of unity and hope, a reminder that the mission of these faithful servants lives on through the work of their brother priests. This heartfelt tribute filled those present with a renewed sense of purpose and inspiration, encouraging all to continue the journey with faith and to carry forward the spirit of those who have gone before.
