Prison Ministry Sunday Celebrated in the Archdiocese of Bangalore

With the theme "Prisoners are our friends," the Archdiocese of Bangalore marked this year’s Prison Ministry Sunday with a profound sense of compassion and solidarity. The celebration, inaugurated by Archbishop Peter Machado during the Shepherd’s Voice program, highlighted the Church's unwavering commitment to those who are incarcerated, echoing the words of Jesus: “I was in prison, you visited me” (Mt 25:36).

In his address, Archbishop Peter Machado inspired the faithful, especially the youth, to embrace the call to serve those who are often forgotten by society. "Young people, your love and compassion can break down the walls of despair and bring hope to those in the darkest corners," he said. "By reaching out to our brothers and sisters in prison, you are not only fulfilling Christ's command but also becoming instruments of His boundless mercy and grace."

Prison Ministry Sunday was observed in almost all the parishes across the Archdiocese, with PMI Volunteers dedicating their time and efforts to raising awareness about the mission of Prison Ministry India. Throughout the day, these volunteers engaged in Outdoor Collections and conducted sessions to educate the faithful on the importance of this ministry, emphasizing the theme that prisoners are indeed our friends.

Fr. Maxmillian S, the Coordinator of Prison Ministry India - Bangalore unit, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the day. "I extend my deepest thanks to our PMI Volunteers, Parish Clergy, Priests, Brothers, Religious Sisters and Lay Faithful for their cooperation towards this Ministry" he said. "Your dedication to this ministry is a testament to the power of love and service, and it is through your efforts that we can continue to bring hope and dignity to those who need it most."

The celebration of Prison Ministry Sunday in the Archdiocese of Bangalore was a powerful reminder of the Church’s mission to stand in solidarity with the marginalized. Through the combined efforts of the clergy, volunteers, and the faithful, the day served as a beacon of hope, reinforcing the message that no one is beyond the reach of God's love and mercy. As the Archdiocese continues its work in Prison Ministry, the theme “Prisoners are our friends” will remain at the heart of its mission, inspiring all to see the face of Christ in every person they encounter.
