Sr. Nathalie Becquart’s Visit to the Archdiocese of Bangalore



Bangalore, January 15. 2023: Archdiocese of Bangalore was privileged and honoured to receive a distinguished visitor from the Vatican, Rome. Rev. Sr. Nathalie Becquart XMCJ, the Under Secretary of the Synod of Bishops, took time to visit the Archdiocese of Bangalore on the invitation of Archbishop Most Rev. Dr Peter Machado, Archbishop of Bangalore, on Sunday, January 15, 2023.

Sr. Becquart is the first woman to be selected by Pope Francis to oversee the Synodal Process across Catholic community around the world.

Sr. Becquart briefed at length the mission and the purpose of the Synodal exercise across the world. She paid rich encomiums and warmly appreciated the efforts taken by the Bangalore Archdiocese under the inspiring leadership of Archbishop Peter Machado. She took time to answer various queries from the participants who were 25 in number.

Besides Sr. Nathalie Becquart, a host of Church leaders of the Archdiocese of Bangalore were present. A prominent few were Rev. Dr. Lucien Legrand MEP, Author and Professor Emeritus of St. Peter’s Pontifical Seminary, Rev. Fr. Richard Britto, the Rector of St. Peter’s Pontifical Seminary, Rev. Fr. Ambrose Pitchaimuthu, National Executive Director of Pontifical Mission Organizations, Rev. Fr. Yesu Karunanidhi, Executive Secretary for the CCBI Commission for Bible, Rev. Fr. Gangula Vignan Das, Associate Director of Communio India, and others were present.



Rev. Fr. Gabriel Christy, the Coordinator of the Synodal Process in the Archdiocese of Bangalore, presented the brief report of the Synodal Consultation in the Archdiocese. The important information was that over 1829 sessions were held across the Archdiocese covering various segments of the Christian community including interreligious leaders in an effort to elicit information and expectation of the Church.

Rev. Dr. Cyril Victor Joseph, CCBI Coordinator for Media Apostolate and Director of Archdiocesan Communication Center (ACC) presented a brief report that the synodal consultations done from the communication perspective stressed to foster the harmonious relationship between the Church and the media world.

Rev Dr Christopher Vimal Raj Director of CCBI Bioethics Forum, moderated the evening program.
